Today.....

I went running this morning around one lake and then around camo hill. At the back side of the hill there are steps all the way to the top. So to be a little adventurous today, I decided to change up the regular PT routine and climb the stairs. When I started my climb it was easy sailing for the first 10 steps…then it started to get hot, and the air got thick, and I started to slow down … FAST. But a I was climbing I noticed the way the area looked. It reminded me of a part in the movie The Neverending Story where the trees are bare, and the dark clouds are low and its really quiet. (this photo is FROM the movie, it is NOT here in IRAQ....) I am guessing that since it is starting to change seasons here that the weather is starting to change a lot too. I have noticed more cloudy (really over cast) days here. Which is odd since the resort should always be bright and sunny! Even though it was all gloomy this morning when I went running, by the time I ate chow and showered it was sunny again! So no worries for those boaters and sun bathers, you will have a clear day for all outdoor activities! After chow I stopped a the gym to weigh myself. There was a guy in front of me doing the same, so I patiently waited for him to finish. When he was done I asked him jokingly if it was broken, he said it was fine and PROCEEDED TO LOOK AT THE SCALE AS I WAS ON IT!! What MAN in his RIGHT MIND would watch a FEMALE (even IF he knew who she was, which this dorkface DID NOT !!) weigh herself…???? And then EXCLAIM… “NO WAY!!” when he saw what I weighed! I gave him a dirty look for EVEN glancing my way and said, “YEAH THAT’S RIGHT!! ITS ALL MUSCLE, WATCH OUT!!!” What a JERK!! So let that be a lesson to ANY man reading this…DO NOT look at the scale while a WOMAN is on it, or ELSE!!...need I say more? So the rest of the morning I am doing girl stuff … I’m exfoliating my face as I type, I will be painting my nails when I’m done typing, and then later this afternoon I will be straightening my hair … FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2 MONTHS … I will feel like ME again!! No more TomBoy … well at least for today. I forgot to mention the other day that I received a package in the mail that I ordered from www.drugstore.com In it was EYEBROW WAX (thank God!)… so a few mornings ago I sat in front of my roommates mirror pealing off my eyebrows! (lol) My sister would be proud…I still have some left! (hee hee hee) I didn’t go over board.

LOL

A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, right up to
the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said; "I would like
to buy some cyanide."

The pharmacist asked, "Why in the world do you need cyanide?"

The lady replied, "I need it to poison my husband."

The pharmacist eyes got big and he exclaimed, "Lord have mercy!
I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband! That's against the law!
I'll lose my license! They'll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad
things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide."

The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband
in bed with the pharmacist's wife.

The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, "Well now, that's
different. You didn't tell me you had a prescription."

"You were promised something, but the exact nature of that something was
left vague. Now you have no idea what to expect. The suspense may not be
killing you, but it is making you a bit anxious."

I'm adding Photos!!

I am slowly adding photos along the right side of the blog. Scroll down

I've Learned...

I've learned that you can't expect things such as a phone call, an email, or a package.

If you don't hold your breath waiting for that email that doesn't come, the phone doesn't ring, or the postman doesn't bring the package, then you can't be upset when you don't receive whatever it is (was) that you were waiting so patiently for.

Try to live each day as if you will not get another.

Wednesday, August 15

I am wearing my hair down for the first time today since I have been
here. Since I'm on nights it's a little cooler. The days are so hot here
that it would be stupid to wear my hair down during the day. Well its
actually half down. I pulled the sides back, I still can't stand it in
my face.

Tuesday, August 14

Today was my first day on a TRUE night shift. I woke up at noon and
couldn't go back to sleep. So I watched a movie. Recently my dad and Sue
send me a care package with some movies in it. One of them was Finding
Neverland, which I had yet to see until today....my word, what a GREAT
movie! I recommend it to everyone!! I even cried A LOT...(no surprise, I
seem to cry at ALL movies) I haven't cried like that in a long time...OK
wait...a few weeks ago when I watched Serendipity I cried bad...but
Finding Neverland is wonderful! GO WATCH IT IF YOU CAN...
My schedule has changed again...now I am working 6pm-6am. So tonight I
am staying at work as LONG AS I CAN before my eyes shut. Then I will
show up tomorrow at 1800(6pm)...not sure how long this shift will
last...we will see.
Midnight chow tonight was the BEST EVER ... The main dish was CHAINES
CHICKEN...LOL...Chinese Chicken

I love the TCN's!! (Third Country Nationals)

Other Photos

I am attaching photos from my little 'base tour' yesterday...

Me and Jen!!

One of my best friends Jen is in "town". We went to a concert (Paul Wall, a rapper) last week; one of the things we seem to ALWAYS do together. And NO we did NOT LEAVE BASE, the USO brings artists and famous people HERE to US!!!

Sunday, August 12

I moved rooms yesterday! I have a new roommate and ONLY ONE!!!! We work
together so I know her pretty well...Yesterday afternoon we dropped all
my stuff off in the room and then went back to work. Since I get off at
0200 I was planning on going right to my room and unpack. Well when I
got back to my room, Krista had made my bed (with the cheese), unpacked
my light and left it on dim, plugged in my clock and made a path for me
to get in. I was SO thankful I almost cried. I couldn't believe it!

Saturday, August 11

I had Enchiladas today for lunch (my breakfast). The last time I had
them they were GREAT....chicken, tomatoes. THIS TIME they were filled
with some sort of Cheese...probably Camel Cheese...goats can't survive
the heat here.
I have been putting a lot of thought into pursuing my PhD. Being in Iraq
will definitely help me to achieve this. I found something online today
that outlines what a successful PhD student is:

For the right type of person, getting a Ph.D. is a great idea. Whatever
the field of study, there are some characteristics common to successful
Ph.D. students. They tend to:

~Enjoy learning for learning's sake
~Be willing to work very hard for many years with only a possible payoff
later
~Be persistent (never give up)
~Like intellectual challenges
~Enjoy an academic environment
~Enjoy scholarly discussions
~Have excellent command of undergraduate coursework
~Be willing to give up some parties and other pastimes to do research
~Be willing to live on a tight budget for many years or have outside
income
If being a Ph.D. student sounds like a monk-like existence, that's
because in some ways, it is.

As big of a DORK as I can be, I really want to do this!! So the next
step is finding a school with a good reputation, flexible class schedule
and close to home. Probably not an online school this time, but I'm open
to looking at all my options...

One day I will be Dr. Hoss...(yes)

Friday, August 10

Its been a pretty relaxed past few days. The weather has been nice. A
slight breeze off the lake. :)

I have been hooked on Rice and Gravy at the chow hall...not sure why.
But tonight is SURF and TURF...umm umm good.

I got a package yesterday from my dad and Sue with some Flavored Splenda
packet in it...if you are a coffee drinker TRY THESE!! SO GOOD!

I also got the latest SMUT-GOSSIP Mags about Bradjolina's break-up and
Brittney "Coke Head" Spears recent weird-ness.

I'm back to hitting the gym twice a day. Walking in 'MY' morning
(noon-ish) and then elliptical in the evenings (2am).

So Riddle me this...why do BOTH my roommates seem to think that at
1100am they can swing the door open, let ALL the light in, throw their
laundry bags on the floor and then swing the door back open and let it
SLAM...H-E-L-L-O...I AM SLEEPING...

AND why did I wake up to more door slamming at 0600 this morning...when
I went to bed at 0445 because I was reading...when I woke up I thought
it was 6PM...I was all confused.

happens to help us live" ~Oprah
Whitecaps at the resort today...no swimming or boating.

Monday, August 6

I went to chow this afternoon after walking 3 miles UNAWARE that it was
the first Sunday of the month which means...BRUNCH!! So when I asked for
a Chicken Breast...I got a Chicken OMELET....(interesting). But I ate it
none the less. (FYI for all you sour cream eaters (Midwesterners) the
sour cream is NOT normal here...pass on it if you have the chance). So
while I was waiting for my Omelet I got a glass of ice water (no lid).
When my food was ready I walked back to my room. It was breezy outside
but nothing too bad.

So riddle me this: Why did I have SAND in the bottom of my cup when I
for back to my room....? (Grrrrr)

Friday, August 3

I have been SICK as a DOG the past 20 hours. I went to the Airport to
meet my best friend JEN who was in 'town' for a quick minute. But
something I ate did NOT settle with me to well...so I apologize if I
have been out of the loop for a while. I have been drinking my water and
7-Up when I can. Otherwise it will be Jell-o for dinner tonight...too
bad since its Surf and Turf Friday!

Wednesday, August 1

NO INTERNET either.......OMG I am going to LOOSE MY MIND!!
I saw a guy fishing with Fruit Loops this morning.
So I woke up late today. By 30 minutes...time to get an alarm clock. So
I walked quick all the way to work in the heat. Just to get to the door
and find out that I FORGOT my building ID in my room...So I turned
around and walked faster back to my room, got the stupid ID and then
turned around again. HOT...HOT...HOT...and NO FREAK'N AC at work!! The
guy next to me as a thermometer and it says 94 in here....AND we are
having to start turning the fans off since it is going to OVER HEAT the
Generators...grrrr I can FEEL the sweat running down my back...so
gross!!
